Last month, we looked at the different types of websites you can create. In August I would like to focus on some of the major tools you can use to create website.
Wordpress
The top most used tool when it comes to creating and managing websites is Wordpress.
Publishers, business owners, and organisations love Wordpress because they can adapt it to fit their various needs by using various plugins and themes.
Most people use Wordpress for blogging and eccomerce.
Blogging Platforms
If you are looking to publish content blog posts online, you can use blogging platforms. They are engineered to provide smooth experience for publishing content.
Most of these platforms provide for ways to add custom website domain instead of using the free subdomain.
The most popular platforms are: Medium, HashNode, Substack, Wordpress.com, and Blogger.
Website Builders
Website builders are wildly popular for their ability to modify any part of the website without using code.
They are great for brochure websites although they can be adapted for other uses depending on the platform features.
Some of the common website builders you can use are: Webflow, Wix, Squarespace, Google sites, and Duda.
Ecommerce Platforms
Customers are always looking for alternative ways to get their needs met. Ecommerce platforms provide a solution for businesses to reach customers without investing heavily in building custom solutions.
Popular ecommerce platforms are: Shopify, Prestashop, Opencart, and Bigcommerce.
Static Site Generators
Static site generators are great for creating fast loading content-heavy websites. They are developer friendly since the are easily customizable. A user friendly interface can be added for writers and editors to manage the content on the website.
The most used Static site generators are: Gatsby, Hugo, Jekyll, and Next.
Future Plan
As you can see. There are enough tools to build any kind or website you want. And all these tools are great. With some research or experience you can be able to choose the best tool for each specific website requirements.
Going forward, I will dive into using the tools mentioned above to create different type of websites.
I have been playing around with one of the free tools: Google sites. I think it's a great tool for building website. So, in September, I plan to create a business website using it.
I will share my plan with you at the beginning of September. Then, at the end of the month, I will share my progress and other interesting things that might happened in between.
As always, you can reach me on devpractical@substack.com with your questions or comments.
